Turmeric Fried Rice

Bored of standard boiled rice? Turmeric is a well known spice, why not add some flavour and spice to your rice? Try it out, it’s very simple and easy to make.


Preperation time: 5 minutes | Cooking time: 20 minutes | Serves 2 people

Vegan | Airplane (Crew) Friendly


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup basmati rice (or left over basmati rice) 
  • 2 whole black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric powder
  • 1/2 salt
  • Medium red onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 2-3 whole cloves
  • 2 whole black pepper
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Coriander (optional for garnishing)

1. Half cook the rice with 1/2 tsp tumeric powder and 1/2 tsp salt, once it’s half cooked drain in the sieve and wash with cold water and leave to side for the rest of the remaining water to drain.

2. In a non-stick pot heat oil, and add 2-3 whole cloves, 1/2 cinnamon stick and 2 whole black peppercorns. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and sliced medium red onion. 

3. Add the rice, and stir in slowly and carefully, bit by bit and stirring the rice in the spices. 

4. Allow it cook on low heat for another 5 minutes. And serve immediately or with any of my delicious curries.
